I’m Finbarre Snarey, host and producer of Tarot Interviews – the first podcast in the world to interview creative people using tarot cards as structured prompts.
The series brings writers, artists and other creative guests into conversation through the cards, using tarot not as a prediction tool, but as a way to open up stories about work, memory, imagination and creative life.
Season One was released as a regular podcast series and is available on:
Going forward, new episodes will be released as standalone Tarot Interviews specials, kicking off at the Bearded Theory Festival.
Alongside the podcast, I also run Tarot DMs, a related written interview project where guests respond to tarot prompts by text message. Both projects explore how creative work actually gets made – the ideas, doubts, workarounds and turning points that rarely make it into press releases.
My wider tarot work also includes research, public scholarship and heritage activity. In 2026 I presented at Tarot Cultures, the Goldsmiths conference on tarot studies, with a paper connected to Rider Waite Smith tarot reading practice in the UK.
I am also involved in work around tarot as living heritage, including the UK Living Heritage Inventory submission for Rider Waite Smith Tarot Reading Practice in the UK. This sits alongside my work developing the British Tarot Archive, which collects, documents and contextualises tarot material with long-term cultural and research value.
Together, Tarot Interviews, Tarot DMs, the British Tarot Archive and my Living Heritage work form an arts and culture project about how tarot is used, discussed, preserved and reimagined in contemporary creative life.
Reach and Listenership
Based on Buzzsprout benchmark data from Season One, Tarot Interviews ranked in the top 10% of global podcasts by episode count and the top 35% of global podcasts by downloads.
The show has reached listeners in 55 countries, with the largest audiences in the United States and the United Kingdom, followed by listeners across Europe, Oceania, Asia and South America.
Most listening happens on mobile, with a strong mix of Apple Podcasts, Spotify, web browsers, iPhone and Android devices. This gives Tarot Interviews a broad cross-platform audience rather than one dependent on a single app or channel.
Impact Report
Since launching in 2025, Tarot Interviews has grown from an independent podcast into a wider arts and culture operation, including the original audio series and Tarot DMs, a messenger-based interview series where creative people respond to three tarot prompts.
Across Tarot Interviews and Tarot DMs, the project has produced a first podcast series, published 30+ Tarot DMs features, welcomed recognised guests including Joanne Harris, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Lucy Rose, Lauren Beukes, Julian Simpson and Sacha Coward, and generated approximately $1,000 in physical and financial donations and support.
The project is also beginning to build longer-term archive value through carefully sourced tarot deck acquisitions connected to the British Tarot Archive.
